Nicole Kidman caught in ‘really shocking’ behavior in Paris: ‘Tell me it’s not true’

I was very disappointed to see Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts, two much-loved Australian friends, walking into a Balenciaga show in Paris with their teenage children. I thought to myself, this is not real! This was after the fashion house had recently been the subject of much controversy over child exploitation content.

When children carrying stuffed bags and dressed in seemingly BDSM-inspired outfits were part of the luxury fashion house’s ad campaign, I thought it was pretty much over for the prestigious fashion house. Then when the campaign was accused of sexualizing children with an image that included a document related to a Supreme Court case on child pornography laws? I mean. She must be dead, I thought.

But no, the controversies seem to have been swept under the designer’s rug, as celebrities continue to openly support the brand.

This is definitely not a good idea.

Personally, I to hate cancel culture but I still don’t understand the lack of public and celebrity warning the brand faced when they did something so obviously tasteless and classless.

The fact that the brand’s transgressions involved children and could be interpreted as a possible endorsement or trivialization of the problem of child abuse is truly shocking and one would think that it would have resulted in widespread condemnation, if not complete isolation, of the brand.

But nothing has stopped celebrities – Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway, Katy Perry, Michelle Yeoh – and many others from wearing the brand.

Balenciaga issued a public apology, removed the controversial ads and said it would investigate the matter internally to understand how the content was approved.

The brand also filed a lawsuit against the production company and set designer involved in the campaign… although that lawsuit was later dropped.

The incident sparked a broader debate about the responsibilities of fashion brands in their advertising choices and the potential impacts of their content.

However, nothing seems to be going any further and business continues as usual for Balenciaga.

Designers like Christian Dior and Coco Chanel held the late Christobal Balenciaga in the highest regard, with Dior famously stating that he “is the master of us all.” Despite his reclusive nature, Balenciaga’s work had a lasting impact on the fashion industry. I think he would be turning in his grave today.

Anything that affects children in this way is simply unacceptable and it is astonishing that in this day and age the controversy seems to have been quietly forgotten. It is a real surprise as other people and brands have been delisted for their misdeeds and missteps.

Among the major designers who have paid a high price for their indiscretions is John Galliano, who was fired in 2011 as artistic director of Dior after a video surfaced of him making anti-Semitic remarks. He was later convicted of anti-Semitic behavior by a French court and fell from grace in the fashion industry.

Luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana has faced backlash after releasing promotional videos in China that were deemed racist. The consequences have included the cancellation of fashion shows in China and widespread boycotts.

Multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and assault have been made against Alexander Wang, with individuals accusing him of inappropriate behavior — which has also led to calls for a boycott of his brand.

So why not Balenciaga? Is the industry so weak and full of lightweight protagonists that some brands are too cool to be reprimanded?

Perhaps his reputation as a French master and his style are too seductive and celebrities simply can’t resist wearing him. Or have they simply forgotten their moral code in a game of following?

Either way, this is simply unacceptable. How can celebrities justify continuing to wear these clothes when the brand has been linked to such disgusting allegations? What does it say about them?

I think it’s high time for them to take a step back and think about what exact values they support.
