“The funny thing is…”: Ridiculous petition to cancel Assassin’s Creed Shadows gains traction, but highlights the biggest problem in gaming right now

Originally announced in September 2022 as Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was finally revealed last month with a flashy CGI trailer and a handful of developer interviews. The game, set in 16th-century Japan, places players in the shoes of two new protagonists, Nao and Yasuke.

While many are eagerly awaiting Ubisoft’s next take on the open-world formula, an alarming number of Japanese fans are calling for the game to be canceled due to its historical accuracy. What’s even more surprising is that the main proponents of the game’s cancellation aren’t even Japanese!
