South Abilene ready for a spectacular night

Live music, flyovers and drones are on the program in the evening.

Organizers have put the finishing touches on the 25th annual WesTex Connects fireworks and drone show, which will take place Wednesday night.

For the first time, this year’s fireworks show will take place at Wylie High School’s Hugh Sandifer Stadium.

In recent years, the show has been held at the Festival Gardens near the Abilene Zoo. The fireworks display, which is not funded by the city or Wylie High School, is a long-running independent initiative.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. with the Dyess Honor Guard kicking off the event. The Matera Grill hot dog buffet will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m., but concessions will be open all night. Spectators will be seated on the field side only.

Live music begins at 7pm with Parkside, followed by an aerial flyover at 8pm by Big Country 1. Live music then resumes with South of Mayhem at 8:15pm

Guests with children ages 3-12 should inquire at the gate for registration for the interactive entry, which is limited to the first 100 children, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The children’s fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m.

The fireworks and drone show will begin at 10 p.m. with a music simulcast on 106.3 FM.

Tickets cost $18.34 each and can only be purchased online.
