Moving truck full of furniture caught illegally dumping on Skid Row

A moving truck full of furniture was seen illegally dumping trash in Skid Row, adding to the area’s growing trash problem.

Dozens of people gathered in downtown Los Angeles as several people unloaded the moving truck. A refrigerator, a couch and a mattress were among the many pieces of furniture thrown away.

One of the individuals is seen using a hand truck to carry a refrigerator across the street.

City officials are now working to determine the motive for the illegal dumping.

City Councilman Kevin De Leon said dumping in the area is common because people are trying to dump items illegally or drop them off for those in need. Regardless of the motive, De Leon said dumping is illegal and can result in fines of thousands of dollars.

“You’re costing the city tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars by doing this,” De Leon said. “Because at the end of the day, the city has to go out there and clean up and haul away the waste. That costs us money.”

Illegal dumping can also pose a safety issue and create a fire hazard, the councilman added.
