New Mexico Offers Special D-SNAP Benefits to Wildfire Victims

RUIDOSO, New Mexico (KRQE) – Individuals and families affected by the South Fork and Salt wildfires may be eligible for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Program (D-SNAP) benefits. Benefits will be worth one month of groceries.

Individuals can apply for these benefits in person at the following address:


  • Horton Complex: 237 Service Rd, Ruidoso, NM 88348
  • Roswell Independent School District Local Office: 1701 S. Sunset Ave, Roswell, NM 88203
  • Alamogordo Independent School District Local Office: 2000 Juniper Drive, Alamogordo, NM 88310

These offices will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day from July 10 to 12 and from July 14 to 17. but for the first three days, people will be served in alphabetical order. On Sunday, July 14, sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you can’t make it to one of the sites, you can call 1-800-283-4465.

The disbursement schedule is based on applicants’ last names.


Benefits are available to people who have lost their homes or property, lost income or incurred unreimbursed expenses due to the fires. Benefit eligibility and eligibility depends on your income, so staff will ask you about this when you apply.

According to the New Mexico Health Authority, about 18,000 residents could be eligible for these benefits. That includes people who live or work in the following ZIP codes: 88355, 88345, 88346, 88312 and 88340.
