AEQ expands its Smartalk offering

The app supports sports talents and other journalists through their phones

The AEQ has expanded its Speak intelligently service with a home app to support high-quality streaming from smartphones.

“This allows sportscasters and other journalists to use professional microphones from their phone and establish communications with the station’s audio codec to broadcast events and send reports, or conduct interviews, with the highest quality and reliability,” the manufacturer said in the announcement.

A web version previously presented generates links that are sent via email, WhatsApp, QR code or other means; when the guest clicks on the link, the application sends an Opus audio codec that connects to the station’s AEQ Phoenix audio codec.

Now, the resident Smartalk application is free to download from Google Play or AppleStore; it installs a fixed application on the phone.

“In both cases, without further intervention, the audio connection between the device’s microphone and speaker or headset and the station’s audio codec is ready,” the AEQ said.

“But the Smartalk home app has full control over the smartphone, ensuring compatibility with equipment and allowing the use of professional microphones and headsets, making it suitable for professional use by sports journalists or commentators who regularly work with a station. There is no need for an audio codec, nor is there any need for help to set it up and use it. This means that employees can intervene from anywhere where there is an Internet connection.”

The participant clicks to open a home screen; clicks again and is live on the pre-assigned codec line or other station resource.

Any user of an AEQ Phoenix audio codec can subscribe to a trial subscription. The service is offered as an annual license that is renewable based on the number of activated studio codecs.

Subscribers can download the application or submit their web login link as many times as needed during the subscription period, for the number of licensed Phoenix codecs. When a license is activated on a station PC, the web application is enabled so that Smartalk users can create “guests” or remote terminal users, whether they connect to resident or temporary web applications via links.

AEQ has published a video tutorial on Youtube.
