Ellen DeGeneres Cancels 4 Stand-Up Show Dates This Summer

Ellen DeGeneres has canceled several show dates less than a month after kicking off her Ellen’s Last Fight… tour in June.

Ticketmaster sent an “event canceled” message to ticket holders for DeGeneres’ shows in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago, which were scheduled for July and August.

“Unfortunately, the event organizer has had to cancel your event,” the site says. “There is nothing you need to do. We will process a refund to the payment method used at the time of purchase as soon as we receive the funds from the event organizer. The refund should appear in your account within 14 to 21 days.”

Ellen DeGeneres is “endearing.”

Additionally, Ticketmaster clarifies that if the ticket was purchased by someone other than the ticket holder, “the refund will be issued to the fan who originally purchased the tickets from Ticketmaster.”

The canceled dates are July 10 in Dallas, July 21 in San Francisco, July 23 in Seattle and Aug. 11 in Chicago, according to Ticketmaster.

No further details were provided regarding the cancellation.

PEOPLE has reached out to DeGeneres’ reps for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

The 66-year-old comedian’s 27-show North American tour dates were announced in late May. According to a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time, the dates will be the “last opportunity” to see DeGeneres in her “final curtain call.”

Earlier that month, PEOPLE reported that DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix special, set to tape August 16 and 17 in Minneapolis, would be her “last.”

Robbie Praw, Netflix’s vice president of stand-up and comedy formats, praised the former talk show host’s talents in a press release, saying, “There’s no one like Ellen.”

“She is a true legend and a pioneer in so many ways,” Praw concluded. “We look forward to bringing fans another one of her hilarious comedy specials later this year.”

DeGeneres has already released her 2018 special Relatable with the streaming service.

Her return to comedy comes after her May 2021 announcement in which she explained her decision to end her eponymous talk show after season 19.

During an appearance on Today At the time, the TV personality spoke about her show’s cancellation following a July 2020 BuzzFeed News report in which current and former employees anonymously recounted their experiences on set — including allegations of being penalized for taking medical leave, instances of racial microaggressions, and fear of retaliation for coming forward with complaints.

“I really didn’t get it; I still don’t get it,” DeGeneres told host Savannah Guthrie in May 2021. “It was too orchestrated, it was too coordinated.”

During a stand-up performance in Los Angeles in April, DeGeneres joked about being “kicked out of show business” for being “mean.”

She changed her tone and added: “The hate lasted a long time and I tried to avoid watching the news. The girl who said ‘be nice’ was not nice. That was the headline.”

“I joke about what happened to me, but it was devastating,” DeGeneres told the audience during a post-show Q&A. “It took me a long time to want to do anything again.”
