A quick message from Awards Radar on the occasion of July 4th

Dear friends, today is the 4th of July. In normal times, which seem like ages ago, I would wish you all a happy holiday from the entire Awards Radar team. Today, I still hope everyone is having fun and staying safe, but I have other things on my mind today. It’s America’s birthday again, in a way, our Independence Day, and like the last few years, I’m not sure the United States deserves a celebration this year. Two years ago, it was in the shadow of the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, with this year, and last year, bringing more rollbacks from the Court, the country seems as broken and headed in a regressive direction as ever before. Plus, there’s that pesky election coming up in November that’s weighing so heavily on the direction America is headed. So even though it’s a holiday, there seems to be less to celebrate this year than usual.

At the same time, I’m sure many of you have barbecues or go to the movies. It’s a Fourth of July tradition, of course, and it’s also a nice distraction. So I don’t blame anyone who goes that route. Movies have that power, even if someone like me has recently turned more to Never Rarely Sometimes Alwaysas evidenced by my Sunday Scaries posts from some time ago (found here), or Red State for a year (here). That’s how I work.

If you went to see something, tell us what you saw. Despicable Me 4? Did you follow my advice and see MaXXXine? If so, I hope you enjoyed it. Whatever you do or see, be safe, and let’s hope for better days ahead for America…

Best wishes from Awards Radar!
