Jose Enrique seems to have made a mistake in trying to offer some of his players to another team.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle defender is understood to have become a football agent following a series of media and punditry appearances since retiring from playing in 2016.

He is known for his outspoken views on social media, regularly giving his opinions on Liverpool and was recently cited by former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp for some of his comments about the club.

But now, according to Football Italia, the agency is the direction the former player has taken, and he has been busy this summer trying to secure deals for his players.

According to the report, Enrique made a mistake when trying to get in touch with Lecce coach Luca Gotti by accidentally sending a message to the wrong account on Instagram.

The account he messaged is called “Luca Gotti reacts,” which has 10,500 followers and has since shared jokes around the events on the account.

“Hello Luca, I hope you are well and it’s nice talking to you,” the apparent message began, shared in a screenshot online. “Is José Enrique here, a former football player and football agent.

“I have two players that might interest you. They are both signed by me and my brother. Can you give me your thoughts? Thanks.”

Enrique then provided two links to transfermarkt.com, one for the profile of Feyenoord player Marcus Pederson and one for Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

The messages went viral online after apparently being shared by the account owner, with Enrique failing to respond to the message on his own accounts.

Pederson, 20, has been at Feyenoord since 2021 but spent last year on loan at Sassuolo and is a full Norway international.

Cantwell, meanwhile, has been contracted to Rangers since 2023 after joining the club from Norwich City.

Lecce play in Serie A, where they finished 14th last season, with Gotti at the helm since March.

On the 56-year-old’s account, a photo from the transfermarkt.com page of the two players was shared with an edited photo of Gotti trying to resuscitate someone, captioned: “Limited to a loan with the right to repurchase”, apparently mocking the players’ prices.

Enrique played for Newcastle between 2007 and 2011 before joining Liverpool, initially under Brendan Rodgers before Klopp – who released the defender – took charge.

He had blamed Klopp’s departure on the club’s owners, to which the German responded in January: “I saw Jose Enrique, who I like a lot, say it was because of FSG. I can tell you, absolutely, that FSG has nothing to do with it.”
