We will not remain silent observers when it comes to important existential questions.

The representatives of the Montecargo trade union organisations will monitor the development of the situation and will defend the achievement of the objectives and interests of the company and its employees, with, as they said, a justified fear that the flights of fancy and optimistic promises of the management will be without cover and without short-term effects.

“We will not remain silent observers when it comes to existential issues that are important to us and our families, and the right and opportunity to work and earn a personal income are certainly among them. All those who think this way are on the same path as us in the fight for a prosperous, respectable and stable company, and Montecargo undeniably deserves such a status,” the four Montecargo unions say in their reaction.

Representatives of the trade union organisations maintained the previous request addressed to the executive director Dušanka Dragojević and the chairman of the board of directors of Montecargo, Miroslav Brajović, more precisely the request for resignation.

“Following the texts and statements of the Montecargo management published in the media in recent days, as employees and representatives of the workers of this company, we have the need and obligation to express our position and opinion on the newly created situation. It is clear that we, as workers, want to believe in these optimistic and promising announcements, because our only objective from the beginning is to ensure the right to work and the possibility of earning our personal income,” the statement said.

In the whole process, as they said, the role of all employees who, through their union representatives, drew the attention of the public and management itself and made it clear that they would not be silent observers of the closure of the company, must not and cannot be ignored or diminished.

“Even though Dragojević accused us of ‘working for the interests of others’, probably judging on the basis of our own principles and working methods, we managed to present a realistic picture and situation in which Montecargo found itself during the discussions with the competent ministry, and thus forced our management to react immediately and propose a clear plan and additional measures,” the union representatives said.

According to them, although there are optimistic statements and promises about the recovery of business, about the end of the crisis literally overnight, the question arises how the current leadership managed to solve all this practically in one day.

“This is symptomatic of how the geopolitical crisis, the bauxite miners’ strikes, the problem of the lack of RGS wagons and containers for the transport of copper concentrate were quickly resolved, and the management knows better than anyone how many RGS wagons have been purchased, and whether this is sufficient for smooth transport,” he says in the announcement.

The unionists also do not understand the promise and address of the director of the company’s board of directors, who proudly emphasizes that “even if we do nothing, we will have salaries for three months”, which, as they said, sounds like a serious strategic and business plan.

“Especially if we present the information that on June 24, the profits for the month of June amounted to 128,000 euros, and for the payment of salaries and other expenses, that is, for a sustainable company for a month, it would take between 650,000 and 700,000 euros. The management has the opportunity to deny and challenge this calculation with more precise data if it claims that it is not correct,” the statement added.

They considered that the current administration’s claim that the data on the financial resources of this state-owned company are a business secret is also questionable, so the public and employees have been deprived of an accurate and realistic picture of the financial conditions and possibilities of this company.
