Vivek Oberoi Breaks Silence on Powerful People Deciding His Future in Film

Vivek Oberoi has opened up about the time he felt like a victim in the film industry. The actor was speaking about the setbacks in his life at an event when he mentioned how some “powerful people” decided to shape his future when he was at the peak of his career.

Vivek spoke at the India Global Forum in London about the most difficult time of his life. He said he felt frustrated and angry, but his family was supportive. He said: “I had a lot of success, I had won a lot of awards in my career, and all of a sudden it all evaporated because a group of people, who had a lot of power in Bollywood, decided, ‘You’re not going to work here anymore, we’re going to make this happen’.”

He spoke about letting his joy scream through the pain. The ‘Saathiya’ actor credited his mother Yashodhara Oberoi as his biggest pillar of strength. “I went through a lot of frustration, pain and anger and I felt like a victim; and I didn’t know how to deal with it. My mother is someone I really look up to. She’s my hero. And she told me, ‘Focus on being a hero to someone else, and you’ll feel like a hero, you’ll feel like a winner’… the only way to go from being a victim to being a hero is to be a hero to someone. Then you start finding someone to be a hero to,” he said.

This is not the first time that Vivek has spoken about the rejection he faces in the industry despite all the appreciation for his work. In an interview with The Hindustan Times The actor had earlier mentioned that no one offered him work for 14 months despite the success of Shootout at Lokhandwala. “I know how frustrating it is, it can make someone extremely exhausted and tired. It’s like I’ve just delivered an award-winning and commercially successful performance in Shootout Lokhandwala and after that, I’m sitting at home for 14 months, not getting any work,” he said.

The actor recently appeared in Rohit Shetty’s web series ‘Indian Police Force’ which premiered on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year. He is currently busy with the preparations for ‘Masti 4’.
