Outer Range fans are absolutely furious after Amazon Prime Video ended the series, leaving a huge cliffhanger unresolved.

The series’ abrupt ending sparked outrage on social media, with fans expressing frustration at the trend of canceling crime series, which is dissuading them from engaging in similar genres in the future.

The cult series was unexpectedly axed, leaving fans in the dark after the season 2 finale aired in May.

Starring big names like Dune and Avengers’ Josh Brolin, Outer Range is a unique blend of sci-fi and western, centering on a rancher who stumbles upon an enigmatic chasm on the outskirts of Wyoming.

But now viewers are left hanging as the mystery at the heart of the show will never be solved, prompting a backlash against what they call the “ridiculous” premature end to the show. The cast also included talent such as Lili Taylor and Imogen Poots, but even their celebrity status wasn’t enough to save the show.

It’s not just Outer Range that’s facing closure. Another promising sci-fi project from the creators of Westword, The Peripheral, was also dropped by Prime Video last year. The cancellation comes as a shock, especially since Outer Range had climbed to No. 3 on the Nielsen Streaming Originals chart, indicating that it had garnered impressive viewership.
