White House denies Biden could step down, House Democrats consider demanding his departure

Call it the 2024 reassurance tour. President Biden will meet with key Democratic governors and congressional leaders, give a television interview and make campaign stops in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. This week could either save his candidacy or be the final nail in the coffin.

The New York Times reports that Biden told a key ally that he knows he may not be able to save his candidacy if he fails to convince the public in the coming days that he is fit for the job.

The Times report adds: The conversation is the first public indication that the president is serious about recovering after a devastating performance on the debate stage in Atlanta on Thursday.

Both the White House and the Biden campaign have said the report is false.

Quentin Fulks, Senior Deputy Campaign Manager, Biden-Harris 2024: “That’s not true. There are a number of rumors that are circulating. The president is in the running to win. He’s the Democratic nominee. And from our perspective, we’re going to continue to do everything we can to make sure that we build a campaign apparatus that reaches voters.

Bloomberg reports that congressional Democrats from safe districts are circulating a letter urging President Biden to withdraw from the race. The report says Biden is rapidly losing support among Democratic lawmakers and candidates. It is not yet clear whether the letter will be released.

If the president remains on the list, he will have his work cut out for him. A leaked Democratic poll obtained by Puck News shows that Biden’s shaky debate performance is putting previously uncompetitive states like New Hampshire, Virginia and New Mexico in play for former President Trump. The OpenLabs poll also found that 40% of 2020 Biden voters think he should end his campaign.

Several media outlets are reporting that major Democratic donors may be pulling their support for Biden. They are quietly and anonymously considering their options. But Hollywood mogul Ari Emanuel is not being so quiet.

Ari Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor: “I talked to a bunch of donors and they’re funneling all their money to Congress and the Senate. I can’t believe we’re in this situation.
