Night of Thunder, too hot offered on SH Time

Dubai The sons of Night of thunder And Much too hot are among six European-based stallions that Darley will make available to breeders in southern hemisphere time this year, at Kildangan and Dalham Hall studs in Ireland and England respectively.

The half-dozen foals will not be transported to Darley’s Australian farms for the coming season; instead, breeders will be able to use them at their European residences.

Night of Thunder, sire of 2021 Queensland Derby (G1) winner Kukeracha and winner of the 2020 Moonee Valley Vase (G2) and second in the 2021 Australian Guineas (G1) Cherry Tortoni The player, who has signed for his only season in Australia, will be able to get his deal for €60,000 (US$64,725). That’s a significant reduction from the €100,000 he earned this season in the northern hemisphere.

Too Darn Hot has travelled to Darley’s property in the Hunter Valley for the past four seasons but will not be commuting to Kelvinside for the 2024 season. Instead, he will be available to cover mares on southern hemisphere time at Dalham Hall stud near Newmarket for a fee of £50,000 (US$63,708), still less than his current northern hemisphere fee of £65,000. European champion 2-year-old and champion 3-year-old over the mile, son of a triple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi produced a top winner in his first crops in both hemispheres.

Foal bred by Godolphin Overflow triumphed in the JJ Atkins (G1) and ATC Champagne Stakes (G1), and is one of 12 individual winners from Too Darn Hot’s first Australian crop. He leads the race to be crowned champion first-season sire in Australia with cash earnings.

Another son of Dubawi, Space Blues will also be breeding mares in southern hemisphere time. The winner of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), 2020 Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) and 2021 Prix de la Forêt (G1) stands at Kildangan Stud and has two northern hemisphere foals in the field. His price has been set at €15,000 (US$16,180) while Naval crown the fourth Dubawi stallion to be offered for sale in the Southern Hemisphere, is available for €10,000 (US$10,787), the same price paid by the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Stakes (G1) winner last season in the Northern Hemisphere. His first European crop is all foals.

Palace Pier stands alongside Too Darn Hot at Dalham Hall Stud and for the second season running the son of King Man Palace Pier will stand in the Southern Hemisphere for a fee of £25,000 (US$31,851). Winner of five Group 1 contests over a mile, including the 2020 St James’s Palace Stakes (G1) and 2021 Queen Anne Stakes (G1), Palace Pier’s oldest crop is comprised of yearlings. He stands in the 2024 Northern Hemisphere season for £45,000.

The quintet will be joined by Crackman father of last season’s champion and undefeated hero of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) Ace Impact . For the same £17,500 ($22,296) fee as he has been advertised for in the last four European breeding seasons, the four-time Group 1 winner by Frankel is also the sire of the third in the 2023 Deutsches Derby (G1) Weracruz .
