Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Sports bar stool Founder Dave Portnoy has weighed in on the apparent ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Dave Grohl.

The internet personality defended Swift after the Foo Fighters frontman questioned the authenticity of her live performance at one of his concerts on Saturday, June 22. Grohl criticized Swift Tour of the erascalling it a “tour of mistakes” while claiming that her band “actually plays live,” sparking a backlash from Swift’s ardent fans.

In response, Portnoy – who is a known Swift fan and hilariously refers to the singer as his “mother” – expressed his support for the pop star on his Instagram account. BFF with co-hosts Josh Richards and Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia. In a clip of the podcast shared to TikTok on Tuesday, July 2, Portnoy said, “I thought she was performing live.” He then continued to the group, trying to make sense of the situation: “Even if that’s true, someone told me at one point that Dave Grohl’s daughter said something about Taylor, and the Swifties went after her?”

Richards then mentioned that Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter had previously criticized the “Bad Blood” singer for using her private jet, which Portnoy and Chickenfry believe may have been the reason for the 55-year-old’s harsh remarks on stage the other night. The Stool Presidente, 47, admitted: “I love the Foo Fighters, I love Dave Grohl, but is that what you want? You want to take on the Swifties?” before concluding that it was a “pointless thing to say.”

Fans in the comments of the podcast clip seem to agree with Portnoy. One fan commented, “She plays live. I love Dave and the Foo Fighters but he was mean,” while another noted, “She literally has a live band on stage with her every night 😂.” Another criticized Grohl, saying, “It’s funny because the Foo Fighters’ plane is way less economical than hers.”

Swift, 34, responded to Grohl’s comments during her final concert at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday, June 23, by focusing on her band’s live performance. Speaking to a sold-out crowd, she said: “What you just did is an unforgettable moment, not only in my life, but in the lives of every single member of us. The band that’s going to play live for you for three and a half hours tonight. They deserve it so much, as does every single one of my bandmates, and you gave it to us so generously. We’ll never forget it.”
