Ellen DeGeneres Cancels Farewell Tour After Santa Rosa Performance

In her latest stand-up tour, Ellen DeGeneres denies the “mean girl” allegations that quickly ended her mainstream success.

The 66-year-old former daytime talk show host, who has stepped away from the spotlight since her eponymous show ended in 2022, told her audience Tuesday night during her final of three shows at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa that while she is “a lot of things,” meanness is not one of them, according to SFGate.

His set drew loud applause and cheers throughout its roughly hour-long run.

“Let me tell you what’s happened to me since you last saw me,” she told the audience on “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” Tuesday. “I’ve had chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”

As a “strong woman,” the Emmy winner went on to admit she “can be demanding, impatient and tough” – but insisted she was “not mean” as she never intended to hurt anyone.

The comedian’s comments come four years after a Buzzfeed report on allegations made by former “DeGeneres Show” employees who said they experienced a toxic workplace that included “racism, fear and bullying.”

DeGeneres announced the following spring that the once-popular talk show would end with its 19th season.

During this week’s stand-up, DeGeneres also confirmed that she plans to leave showbiz altogether after her upcoming Netflix special.

“This is the last time you’ll see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done,” she told the audience during a Q&A after her performance.

Her North American tour, announced by DeGeneres in May, is set to last most of the summer, with a stop at Radio City Music Hall on August 1 before making its final bow in Minneapolis on August 17.

However, on Wednesday, four shows scheduled for July and August in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago were canceled, according to an announcement on Ticketmaster’s website.

The reason for the cancellation was not given, but refunds will be issued, the message said.
