BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — The U.S. Navy has been sending ships to Bristol for the city’s historic Fourth of July celebration since the early 1900s.

For this year’s event, the USS Marinette is docked just outside the harbor. The ship will be serviced by supply boats from Bristol Town Pier.

According to organizers of the annual Bristol celebration, people will be able to tour the ship from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 4-7.

Those wishing to board will be pre-screened at the water taxi departure point. A valid photo ID is required. Visitors cannot wear short skirts and closed shoes are required.

All visitors must also be physically able to climb and descend steep ladders and get on and off the ship.
