Inter Milan legend believes Argentine star has ‘obvious talent but is not ready for Inter and needs game time’

Nicola Berti believes that young Argentinian star Valentin Carboni is an “obvious talent” but not yet ready to play for Inter Milan.

The legendary former Nerazzurri midfielder gave his thoughts on the 19-year-old in yesterday’s print edition of Rome’s Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter are set to make a decision on young attacking midfielder Carboni this summer.

The Argentine has taken a big step forward in senior football over the last twelve months.

Carboni joined Monza on loan last summer with the aim of getting him regular first-team playing time.

It took Carboni a few months to begin to earn his place in Brianzoli’s starting XI.

But over the course of the campaign, the Inter man has truly shown his value in the present – and the sense that much more is to come in the future.

This summer, Carboni is part of the Argentina team that will play in the Copa America. This is certainly proof of his progress.

But for Inter, it doesn’t look like they will make Carboni a member of their first team now that his loan spell with Monza has ended.

The Nerazzurri will therefore have to decide whether to loan Carboni again, or even if they want to profit by selling him.

French side Marseille are reportedly interested in the young attacking midfielder.

Berti said of Carboni: “We are talking about a clear talent.”

“If it were up to me, I would keep him at Inter for life,” he continued.

“But at the same time we have to be objective,” Berti said.

“Especially when you look at the staff that Simone Inzaghi currently has.”

“He can’t be a regular starter for Inter yet,” Berti explained. “And at the current stage of his career, he needs to be in a team where he can be a regular starter.”

“We’re talking about a 19-year-old player,” he noted.

“It would be better to send him elsewhere to gain more experience. Maybe for one more season so he can improve further.”
