Greer Citizen Announces Intention to Close Doors

GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Greer Citizen, Greer’s only centrally located newspaper, has announced it will close at the end of July.

The announcement was made online and in Wednesday’s edition.

“The national decline in print journalism and the community’s corresponding shift from newspaper advertising to online media have made financial sustainability impossible, leading us to make this inevitable decision,” the newspaper said.

The final edition of the newspaper will be published on July 31, 2024.

The Greer Citizen was founded on May 10, 1918, originally as a family business.

The newspaper was then purchased in September 2006 by Buchheit News Management, a family-owned company in Spartanburg.
