WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Veterans can now find relief from the summer weather at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, 5500 E. Kellogg Ave. When temperatures exceed 90 degrees, veterans can head to Building 62, located on the west side of the medical center.

The CDC reports that extreme summer heat is increasing across the country. The heat, along with high humidity levels, is associated with an increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

The negative health effects of heat are predictable and preventable. Staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and sheltering indoors can help prevent heat-related illnesses.

In addition to the medical center, Wichita’s neighborhood resource centers, parks and recreation centers, and libraries are all open to the public. To find a list of locations, click here.

Additional information is available on the Department of Veterans Affairs website. If you are a homeless veteran or at risk of becoming homeless, the National Veterans Homelessness Call Center (877) 424-3838 can help.
