Theresa May leaves a message on her doorbell while campaigning for the Conservatives

Theresa May left a message on a constituent’s Ring doorbell while canvassing for Perth and Kinross-shire Conservative candidate Luke Graham on Saturday 29 June.

The former prime minister introduced herself before informing the owner that she was leaving a leaflet on his door because he was not there.

Mrs May’s campaign was praised online, with Labour councillor Adam Aston saying the gesture was “a lovely little message”.

It is not the first time a former Tory leader has been recorded by a doorbell – David Cameron left a video message at a Hampshire home earlier in June.
