The Most ‘Shocking’ Scene in House of the Dragon Was Completely Real

HBO Series The Dragon HouseThe most shocking scene so far was completely real.

In the latest episode of the Game Of Thrones spin-off, which could have hinted at the off-screen death of a main character, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) is confronted by his brother, King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), in a brothel.

Aemond, who is completely naked, stands up, exposing himself to everyone in the room – and while viewers thought the actor was wearing prosthetics, it has now been revealed that this was not the case.

Mitchell reflected on his decision to go without prosthetics despite choosing to wear as many as he wanted, and said Vulture The aim was to “shock” the viewers.

“Scenes like this start with a discussion about how far we’re willing to go. It’s not a choice we made lightly. But it’s true that Aemond shocks the audience. Weakness is not in Aemond’s vocabulary.”

Mitchell continues: “Aegon catches Aemond in a vulnerable situation. When I first read the script and saw those brothel scenes in episodes two and three, I saw a brilliant opportunity to offer a rare glimpse of his vulnerability.

“We only see him in his black Targaryen outfit, so to see him in this world – not only that but also humiliated by his brother – is quite shocking.”

Greeta Patel, who directed Mitchell in the scene, said Variety: “Ewan said to me, ‘I want to be completely naked in that moment. It’s important to me because that’s what my character is. That’s what he would do.’ And that’s what we did.”

She told the outlet: “He knows what he has to do to play Aemond. When I originally spoke to him about the nudity, I said, ‘Let’s go through the story. If you’re not comfortable being naked, then you’re not going to be naked.’ We were both on the same page.

“That shift from someone who is vulnerable to literally watching him put on his armor is what we were going for. It’s one of the few times you see the young child in him and the pain in him. Slowly he starts to put on his armor and when he stands up, the fact that he doesn’t care that you see his penis is a very strong visceral shift.”
