Movie Theater: Toby Fournier completes the women’s team with athleticism and versatility

As Duke basketball fans continue to wait for the upcoming season, the Blue Zone is here to analyze the films of the new additions to the men’s and women’s teams. We’ve already looked at Jenessa Coton And Riley NelsonNext up is Toby Fournier:

While head coach Kara Lawson will see nearly every player from last year’s roster return, there was a notable void to fill with centers Kennedy Brown and Camilla Emsbo no longer eligible at the end of the season. Fortunately for the Blue Devils, Lawson brought in the talent she needed with the incoming freshman class.

Toby Fournier was one of the most sought-after players in her class due to her incredible athleticism. A 6-foot-2 forward, the Canadian was all over the internet after video highlights of her dunking ability went viral, but it wasn’t just her slam dunk ability that made Fournier such an impressive addition to Duke’s roster. That said, here’s a video highlight of her slam dunks, because that’s quite the feat:

Beyond the dunk, Fournier’s ability to finish in traffic is what really sets her offensive game apart. Her verticality allows her to stay up high and find the best angle on layups, and her touch around the basket is impressive for such a young player. Watch how she fights to score here:

On defense, Fornier is equally impressive. She’s one of the best low-court blockers in her class, perfect for a Duke squad that has prided itself on its defense since Lawson took over. Here, Fornier effortlessly moves up to knock down a low-court ball:

Ultimately, Fournier has the potential to make a huge impact from day one for the Blue Devils. Her defensive and offensive versatility, combined with her athleticism, fits the archetype that Lawson has always looked for. She will mesh well with other similar forwards like sophomores Jadyn Donovan and Delaney Thomas. You can expect her to play a big role early on for the talented young team.
