Neil Patrick Harris’ Uncoupled Cancelled for a Second Time

Neil Patrick Harris’ romance series Uncoupled has been cancelled for the second time.

The series starred the A Series of Unfortunate Events and Doctor Who actor as a gay man in his 40s who sees his 17-year relationship end abruptly and must learn to navigate the modern dating world.

Season 1 was already available on Netflix, but the streaming giant decided to abandon it following a wave of cancellations. Despite good reviews, the series would not have met with great success.

Showtime (now part of Paramount+) decided to renew the series for a second season and, with the scripts nearly all written, production was set to begin in a few months. However, Deadline reports that the decision was ultimately made not to continue the series.

Co-creator Darren Star, who is also behind Emily in Paris, had previously teased one of the storylines the second season would have followed, specifically the answer to the mystery of Kai’s (Jasai Chase Owens) biological father.

“We have very strong ideas about this storyline. We almost revealed it in the first season, then we decided not to do it anymore. It will be very surprising,” he said.

Meanwhile, filming for the fourth season of Emily in Paris began in January. One of the lead actresses, Ashley Park, went into septic shock and was hospitalized shortly before filming began.

She was quickly able to get to the set, though she had to wait for medical clearance to begin filming. She said her castmates gave her an “incredibly warm welcome” and thanked everyone on the production team and at Netflix for “their genuine kindness and gracious patience.”
