Lazio considering increasing offer for Mason Greenwood following Marseille bid

Lazio are reportedly set to increase their offer for Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood to €25m, but they are not the only club trying to secure a deal.

The Italian side face stiff competition from Ligue 1 side Marseille, who recently appointed former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi as their new manager.

Juventus expressed interest earlier this summer and Greenwood reportedly enjoyed his time in Spain last season.

Greenwood has spent a season-long loan at Getafe but the La Liga side will be unable to compete with Marseille or Lazio now that they are in the middle of a bidding war, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio would be willing to increase their offer to €25 million plus a significant percentage of the transfer value. Their initial offer was rejected.

Greenwood is only 22 but he has no future at Old Trafford. The best-case scenario for United would be for him to leave permanently this summer.

The proceeds from the sale of Greenwood will represent a net profit on the balance sheet, allowing United to significantly increase its purchasing power if and when a deal goes through.
