Does Kamala Harris have what it takes to beat Trump if Biden steps down?

Harris — the first woman, the first African American and the first person of Asian descent to hold the nation’s second-highest office — has been plagued by dismal approval ratings and a policy portfolio that has seen her tackle politically sensitive issues, such as the root causes of an immigration crisis that has brought hundreds of thousands of people to the United States in recent years.

But she has also spent the past three years making a name for herself on the international stage, including at the Ukraine peace talks in Switzerland last month. She has also become the administration’s most prominent voice on reproductive freedom in the wake of the Supreme Court decision. Dobbs The Supreme Court decision, which ended a half-century-old federal right to abortion, was made by Harris. Her “reproductive freedom tour” has taken her to events across the country, where she has toured rallies packed with women and minority voters.

Full story: Biden warns of Trump’s ‘monarchy’ on July 4 as former president gleefully watches chaos

The aftermath of the Biden debate was a seemingly welcome diversion for Donald Trump and his campaign, drawing media attention away from his own series of unintelligible public statements, questions about his mental health and an outlandish agenda that just days ago called for “televised military tribunals” for a former congresswoman.

He has kept a relatively low profile, for himself, and seems happy to let his Democratic rivals fight for their political futures.

Biden now hopes to use July 4 to turn the situation around:

Fan Cams and Coconut Trees: Kamala Harris Memes Resurrect the KHive

The Internet has fallen from the coconut tree.

How the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling opened the door to a shocking question: Can presidents kill their rivals?

Can a president order the assassination of a rival and get away with it?

This is an absurd hypothesis raised by an appellate judge to highlight the literally incredible and dangerous consequences of the legal argument of Donald Trump’s lawyers.

There is no legal precedent that would give a president such authority. But according to legal scholars, advocates and liberal Supreme Court justices, the decision appears to open the door to the question of whether the commander in chief can legally commit murder.

There are, however, precedents for refusals to run for a second term and withdrawal of power. The most recent, and perhaps most famous, case was in 1968.

Biden campaign uses July 4 to criticize Trump for turning US ‘into a monarchy’

In an email, the Biden campaign told supporters that “this July 4, Donald Trump wants to make America a monarchy again.”

When Donald Trump fantasizes about revenge against his political opponents, openly campaigns to portray himself as a dictator from day one, and encourages and excuses the political violence of January 6, we must believe him.

Especially when the Supreme Court’s latest decision removes one of the last brakes preventing it from doing just that.
