Consider, Joseph joins Tennessee in NCAA

African Games medallist Consider Ekanem and new women’s 400m national champion Esther Joseph have been signed by the Tennessee track and field team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the United States, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The NCAA is a program that allows students to combine athletics and sports, through a scholarship, with the possibility of becoming professional athletes after graduation.

Consider Joseph will be on the Tennessee Track and Field roster before next season.

Both athletes were victorious for Nigeria at the 2023 African Games in Ghana.

Consider, 20, won bronze in the men’s 200m and added gold to his medal haul with the men’s 4x100m relay team. He also set a personal best of 10.10sec in the 100m, which was the world’s best time in January.

Joseph is Nigeria’s new women’s 400m champion, clocking 51.70sec to win her first national title at the Olympic trials in Benin City last month. She held off a late attack from Patience Okon-George, who finished second in 51.76sec, and Imaobong Nse-Uko (third) in a season’s best of 52.04sec.

She won silver in the women’s 400m at the African Games in Ghana, as well as a gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay and another relay gold at the recently concluded African Championships in Cameroon.
