In a series of shocking events, four individuals were allegedly attacked by the same shark South Padre Island, TexasJuly 4. According to ABC News, the attacks occurred within hours of each other during holiday celebrations.

One incident was particularly serious: a woman was seriously injured in the leg by the shark bite. Horrifying video shows good Samaritans pulling the injured woman out of the water, highlighting the urgency of the response to this dangerous situation.

An eyewitness described the scene as horrific. “The beach patrol picked her up, her calf was gone, shredded. Horrible,” eyewitness Kyle Jud, 46, told NBC News.

Reports indicate that there have been two shark bite incidents and two shark encounters in Texas. The first shark bite was reported around 11 a.m. local time Thursday when 911 received a call about a “serious shark bite to the leg.”

The victim was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville after receiving first aid at the scene, police said. A second person was also bitten by the shark. According to ABC News, a third person was grazed by the shark, while a fourth swimmer was injured while trying to fend off the shark attack.

Fire Chief Jim Pigg called the shark attacks “unprecedented” on South Padre Island. He said the shark was “pushed into deeper water.” “Shark encounters of this nature are not common in Texas,” the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said. “When sharks bite, they are usually mistaken identifications by sharks looking for food.” Police and firefighters used drones to patrol the beach after the attacks.
