Barcelona ready to pay top target’s €58m release clause, salary could be an issue

Nico Williams is arguably Europe’s hottest prospect right now, especially after his blistering performances at Euro 2024.

Nico’s partnership with Lamine Yamal on the flanks has raised many eyebrows, forcing Barcelona to consider a move for the Athletic Club starlet this summer.

Nico has in fact been identified as FC Barcelona’s priority target for the summer, although the club is open to other alternatives.

Barcelona ready to pay Nico’s release clause

A recent report from Cadena SER has offered an interesting update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams, suggesting that the club are exploring avenues to sign the Spaniard.

According to the report, Barca consider Nico’s €58 million price tag to be reasonable as there is no player of his type available on the market for such a price.

Barcelona ideally want to negotiate with Athletic Club but are aware that the Spanish team will not lower their demands.

Barça are willing to pay 58 million euros for Nico’s services, but to facilitate the transfer the club must solve its economic problems.

Can Barcelona sign Nico?

Selling current stars is a key economic lever that Barcelona are likely to use in their bid to sign Nico Williams this summer.

Barca do not see this as a challenge because there are several players in the first team, who can leave for a fee of at least 60 million euros this summer.

But the most delicate thing for the Catalans will be the salary. Barcelona is not able to compete with the English clubs to offer Nico a lucrative contract.

Keeping this in mind, the Blaugrana I hope the player demonstrates his commitment to joining Barcelona by not forcing a bidding war and agreeing to a move to the Camp Nou this summer.
