Skyrim-Inspired Dungeonborne’s First Playtest Draws Thousands

If, like me, you think that many mining games are a little too similar, you might not want to try another new one on the market. But what if I told you that this one had skeletons and swords instead of militias and guns? Dungeon of Death takes the tried and true formula that games like Escape from Tarkov and Gray Zone Warfare have mastered, but infuses it with Skyrim-style dungeons filled with supernatural baddies that you and your team can hack, slice, and cast spells on.

Dungeonborne is an upcoming mining game in which players take on the role of a dungeon crawler venturing through the dark corridors of Clouseau Castle or the sinister crypts of Sinner’s End. Battle other skeletons, dodge traps, and flee from massive spiders as you try to navigate the levels for loot and escape before you’re overwhelmed,

A closed playtest for the game launched yesterday, Wednesday, July 3rd, and it has already attracted a record 14,448 players. According to Steam DB, at the time of writing, over 11,000 people are currently playing. You can choose from seven starting classes, Fighter, Priest, Rogue, Swordmaster, Pyromancer, Cryomancer, or Death Knight, and play alone or with two friends. I’m not afraid of the dark, honestly, but I’d definitely prefer to be a buddy for this one.

Combat is tough in Dungeonborne. You have to plan your encounters carefully and make sure you don’t drop your shield at the wrong time; if you do, it could mean the end of your game. Even the spells feel heavy, so if you give it a try, feel free to experiment with all the different classes on offer.
