Drug dealer arrested by police carrying £500 worth of heroin after smoking joint

A drug dealer has been jailed for more than five years for transporting heroin and cannabis after he was caught smoking a joint outside Clapham Junction station.

Dexter Sharpe, 38, from Wandsworth, was arrested by officers and detained for a search after he was caught smoking cannabis on July 26, 2022 outside the busy station.

Police found he was carrying a mobile phone, more than £2,000 in cash and 25 cartridges of heroin, worth more than £500, in his rucksack.

He was arrested and during his detention a quantity of cannabis was found among his belongings.

In an interview with police, Sharpe claimed the phone, cash and heroin did not belong to him, but refused to explain how he came to be carrying them.

Sharpe pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and possession of cannabis.

He was sentenced to five years and six months in prison at central London Crown Court on June 26.

Investigating officer DC Emma Martin said: “Sharpe’s sentence reflects the seriousness of his crime and the seriousness with which the courts view this type of offence.

“Drugs are a scourge on communities and this is another example of our intervention to eliminate more drugs from the streets.

“Anyone involved in transporting drugs on the rail network needs to be careful – we have eyes everywhere – you will be caught and you will face the consequences.”
