The Boys boss says Batman and Spider-Man inspired episode 6 ‘Sex Dungeon’

Note: This story contains spoilers from Season 4, Episode 6 of “The Boys.”

Eric Kripke, showrunner and executive producer of “The Boys,” says iconic DC and Marvel characters Batman and Spider-Man inspired the “sex dungeon” scene in Episode 6 of the popular Prime Video series.

“We couldn’t resist the idea of… let’s be honest. Spider-Man going to Batman Mansion, getting taken to the Batcave, which is really a sex dungeon,” Kripke told TheWrap in an interview.

Episode 6, titled “Dirty Business,” follows Hughie (Jack Quaid) as he poses as Webweaver (Dan Mousseau) in order to infiltrate Tek Knight’s (Derek Wilson) “alt-right” cocktail party, where Homelander (Antony Starr) and his colleagues have gathered the country’s wealthiest 1% to discuss the Seven’s plot to replace Robert Singer (Robert Singer) with Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) as president once Singer is elected to the White House. Once inside, Hughie is tasked with planting listening devices throughout Tek Knight’s tavern.

However, while the Boys knew that Webweaver was close to Tek, they were unaware that the two were discreet sexual partners, and that one of the reasons Webweaver was attending the party was so he could participate in Tek’s “acolyte” audition process, which involves torture, bodily fluids, whips, and the chains of his underground dungeon.

“Let’s be real, the Batcave is kind of a sex dungeon. It’s dark, there’s rubber suits everywhere, it’s not very far, honestly,” Kripke said of the Batman-inspired character’s secret lair. “And the idea of Spider-Man getting tickled in Batman’s sex dungeon is just… How could you not do that?”

Luckily, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) were able to save Hughie before Tek pleasure-holed him, as he blew his cover after failing to tell Tek what his/Webweaver’s “safe word” was after three attempts. The safe word was Emmy Award-winning actress Zendaya’s name.

Kripke said screenwriter Anslem Richards wrote the episode and cast “Zendaya” as a key character because the actress plays Mary Jane, Peter Parker’s romantic interest, in Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” universe.

“(Our writer) Anslem Richards put ‘Zendaya’ as a safe word. I think he just dropped it in the draft and it made me laugh out loud,” Kripke said. “It’s a reference to the real Spider-Man, because that’s the thing he loves most in the world.”

New episodes of “The Boys” air Thursdays on Prime Video.
