IOC denies cancellation or postponement of Paris 2024 Olympics

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 4 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has denied a possible cancellation or postponement of the upcoming Paris 2024 Games, due to the current political situation in France.

“This is obviously part of the current disinformation campaign against France, the IOC, its president and the Olympic Games. It has no objective basis,” the institution wrote in a statement on X.

According to the IOC, it is completely false that its president, Thomas Bach, is worried about the possible victory of the far-right National Rally of France (RNF) in the second round of the legislative elections on Sunday.

French media even reported that Bach had given until mid-July to decide whether the Games would be held between July 26 and August 11, as planned, or whether they could be postponed.

The IOC President and the entire Olympic Movement look forward to an excellent Olympic Games in Paris 2024, which will begin with the Opening Ceremony on 26 July, the world body said in its statement.

The French government also described as “false” and “indecent” the reports about the protests against the Games, according to a message from Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.

Our Games will indeed take place in Paris, on the scheduled dates. We have been preparing for them for years, she noted on X. (Text and photo: Prensa Latina)
