Chattanooga artist’s painting draws inspiration from tourists

“Chattanooga’s parks have played a big part in my family’s life and I know they play a big part in many other people’s lives,” says local artist Lora Miller. “Chattanooga is a beautiful place to visit and people who visit Chattanooga often go to the Riverwalk or the aquarium. I wanted to draw inspiration from the visitors, so I titled my piece ‘Visit Chattanooga.’”

Before settling in Chattanooga in 1973, Miller had moved several times; she spent her childhood in Germany, where she was exposed to different types of art and culture. Coming to Chattanooga gave Miller a stability she hadn’t had before, and she was finally able to fully absorb and admire her surroundings. Her work often seeks simple subjects, finding inspiration for her paintings in her own photography. She relies on mixed media, collage elements, acrylics, and watercolors to develop her subjects.
