Jason Patel Names Drag Race Queens Who Inspired New Character

Jason Patel has named the RuPaul’s Drag Race the stars who inspired her drag queen character in her new film Unicorns.

The actor appears alongside Ben Hardy in the new “intercultural romance” film, available now.

In the film, Jason plays Aysha, a “closeted South Asian drag queen”; Ben plays Luke, a single father from Essex who catches Aysha’s eye.

“I like Drag racing” Jason said in an interview with Attitude last week. “It was an amalgamation of different queens. Bianca Del Rio for her sass, her naughtiness and her ‘I can do it’ attitude.

“I think I remember seeing Priyanka, who is a pioneer. Valentina. Plastique Tiara. All these different queens. I found a lot of their unique qualities and I put them all into one person.”

The star – who was sitting next to Tia Kofi last week PEUGEOT Attitude Pride Award – also revealed that Drag racing The veteran gave two thumbs up to Aysha, the drag queen.

“She loved it!” Jason said. “She’s actually going to see it next week, so I’m really excited.”

“I love Tia. She even let me open for her main show last year, which was awesome.”

Elsewhere in our interview, while discussing the characters of Unicorns On questioning their sexuality and gender identity, Jason said, “I think they’re on very different paths, in terms of identity. I think I personally agree that they’re questioning it. I don’t think they’re figuring it out. They’re just at the beginning. They’re going through it.”

“But they found someone. They found each other in that process. And they were obviously a catalyst for each other in that process as well.”

Unicorns is now in UK cinemas.
