War and treaty disappointed by cotton plant left in locker room

Ahead of the war and the treatyDuring their recent performance at the Coca-Cola Sips & Sounds music festival in Austin, Texas, the Grammy-nominated duo were the victims of a racist act that deeply upset them. A cotton plant was left in their dressing room at the festival. “And we all know what that means,” said lead singer Michael Trotter Jr. “We all know what that means in this country to people who look like us.” The band performed as scheduled, but the racist act hurt them. “I felt anger. I felt disrespect. I felt sadness,” Trotter Jr. said. “I’m a son of this country. I served this country honorably in the 16th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army. I felt betrayed. That’s something that white artists don’t have to worry about at all. It just happens in the guts of this genre.” So I think it’s not enough that we talk about it, we have to demand that we talk about it.” (Billboard)
