Ravens Training Camp Competition: Running Back

On the hunt

  • Derrick Henry
  • Judge Hill
  • Keaton Mitchell
  • Owen Wright
  • Rasheen Ali (rookie)
  • Chris Collier (undrafted rookie)

The intended holders

Henry’s signing in Baltimore was one of the NFL’s biggest offseason moves. He’s given his all since joining the Ravens, showing up on the first day of voluntary workouts and quickly establishing himself as one of the team’s hardest-working players. The two-time rushing champion is eager to prove he still has plenty of reserve at age 30. He’s rushed for more than 1,000 yards in five of the last six seasons and has rushed for at least 10 touchdowns six straight years. After eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Henry will bring the game’s most devastating stiff-arm to Baltimore while running more often in the shooting position. Playing in the same backfield as Lamar Jackson will force opponents to defend an imposing combination of thunder and lightning.

Best battle

As a fifth-round pick, Ali will have to fight to find a role as a rookie. Special teams may be Ali’s best opportunity. He suffered a biceps injury at the Senior Bowl that sidelined him during rookie minicamp, but Ali was on the field for mandatory minicamp and should see plenty of action in the preseason. With Mitchell (knee) not expected back until some time before the preseason, Ali has an opportunity to add depth to the running back squad.

Under the radar

Collier is the first Division II player from Loch Haven to sign with an NFL team since 2011. Not invited to the Combine, Collier gained further attention from NFL teams after a strong performance at Temple’s Pro Day, running a 4.48 in the 40-yard dash.
