‘Never deprive us of World Cup final…’: Aditya Thackeray’s message to BCCI | India News

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Aditya Thackeray has lashed out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), telling them to “never take away a World Cup final from Mumbai” in a message on X.

Thackeray’s remarks come a day after fans gathered in large numbers at the Indian cricket team’s victory parade in Mumbai on Thursday. India won the ICC T20I World Cup in Barbados on June 29 by beating South Africa.

“Yesterday’s celebration in Mumbai is also a strong message to the BCCI… Never deprive Mumbai of a World Cup final!” the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said.

He had earlier criticised the BCCI for moving the 2023 ODI World Cup final to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat, where the Indian cricket team was defeated by Australia.

During this time, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has hosted many significant events, including India’s first T20 World Cup win in 2007 under MS Dhoni, the 2011 Cricket World Cup victory on home soil and Sachin Tendulkar’s emotional farewell in 2013.
