Expansion to offer cold storage courses | St. Lawrence County News

CANTON — Under the right conditions, potatoes, carrots, cabbages and onions can be stored for more than six months. Maybe you grow a lot of vegetables and want to eat them yourself during the winter months. Or maybe you want to support a local farmer by buying vegetables in bulk in the fall. Either way, there’s a lot to learn in the world of produce storage, and creating a cold storage environment at home can be a fun adventure.

Register for the Keep it Cool: DIY Vegetable Storage for all Budgets class offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County on July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will be held at two locations, beginning at the Extension Learning Farm in Canton for a presentation and ending with a tour of a root cellar dug on a farm 7 miles from the first site.
