Burlington woman arrested in Los Angeles for Carrboro murder

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman is facing charges in connection with a homicide that occurred in May, the Carrboro Police Department said.

According to a CPD news release, on May 29, officers arrived at the 300 block of Estes Drive Extension shortly before midnight and found Juan Maldonado Espinoza, 41, of Carrboro, dead.

Karla Maria Machuca, 28, of Burlington, has been charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and attempted kidnapping. She was arrested in Los Angeles on June 12 and will be transported back to North Carolina to face the charges.

Cincinnati homicide detectives are continuing their investigation.
