‘Trump will get revenge on you all’: Former Republican sends message to former colleagues

In the first episode of his Bulwark podcast, former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele spoke with former Republican Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, about life under Donald Trump as president.

“I want to send a message to our former Republican colleagues who still think they are immune,” Wilson began. “When the day comes, Donald Trump will get revenge on everyone who criticized him. Everyone, everyone who said a harsh word about him will be in the hot seat.”

He then explained to those who believe they are safe from Trump’s blacklist that they are wrong.

“And some of you who think you’re his loyalists right now, one day you’re going to make a mistake,” he continued. “One day you’re going to make a mistake. One day you’re going to piss him off. And guess what? All these wonderful tools that you’re promoting right now, saying, ‘Yay! Trump has the ultimate power!’ are going to come back to haunt you.”

The two men then discussed the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that granted Trump greater immunity than presidents previously enjoyed. Wilson said that decision was made in Trump’s favor, but even if it hadn’t been made and had not been specifically considered by a president, it would still have been terrible.

“It redefined America,” Wilson said, calling it “a breakthrough.”

He explained that even if Nikki Haley were the defendant in this case, he would have a problem with expanding presidential powers because that is what “conservative” values are.

“But the Supreme Court made that decision knowing that there was a significant possibility that Donald Trump would now take two words from that decision and use them as a shield for the rest of his life,” Wilson said.

He predicted that Trump would always pretend that everything is an “official act” to ensure that he is covered for this behavior.
