Kilkenny, an exceptional team, are shocked by Dublin in the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland Camogie

Kilkenny’s run in the Glen Diplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship ended at the quarter-final stage for the second year running after the Cats were defeated by Dublin at Croke Park.

A first-half goal from Sinead Wylde and fine performances from Aishling Maher and Aishling O’Neill were enough to earn the Dubs a four-point victory.

Kilkenny were forced to play without the injured Miriam Walsh and although they led 0-7 to 1-2 in the 25th minute, their attacking threat quickly dried up as Dublin dominated most of the second half.

Captain Aoife Prendergast shone with a total of five points while Aoife Doyle and Caoimhe Keher Murtagh also contributed to the effort, but Chap Cleere’s side were by far the second best on the afternoon.

It must also be taken into account that Dublin missed a penalty in the first half and while it is a big result for the Metropolitans, there is no escaping the fact that it is a very disappointing way for Kilkenny to exit the Championship after beating the same opponents in the Leinster final a few weeks ago.
