PTI postpones Islamabad rally after NOC cancelled

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its planned rally in Tarnol area of Islamabad, which was scheduled for 6 pm on Saturday (today) after the capital’s administration cancelled the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued for the public rally.

“God willing… we will hold it after Ashura through a legal process,” opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan told a news conference in Islamabad earlier in the day.

Earlier this week, the PTI moved the Islamabad High Court seeking permission from the administration. On Thursday, the court dismissed the petition, with the state attorney saying permission had already been granted.

A day before the rally, the capital’s administration said that the permit for the “political rally” had been cancelled due to “security reasons.” The statement cited the current security situation, the advent of Muharram and concerns raised by law enforcement as reasons for the decision.

Ayub, present along with top party leaders at the press conference, said: “We will hold several more rallies in Lahore, Karachi and other cities. Do not force us to launch a mass agitation.”
