Delaware Oaks postponed to Monday after Saturday heat canceled



Delaware Park has canceled Saturday’s live racing due to excessive heat forecasts. The card, which includes the Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oakswill be broadcast in its entirety on Monday.

The track plans to hold its 10-race Sunday card as scheduled, according to a post on X by the track. That Sunday card features four stakes, including the Grade 2, $500,000 Delaware Handicap and the 3rd year Robert G. Dick Memorial Award, valued at $250,000.

According to the National Weather Service’s forecast for Saturday, an excessive heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. ET. The forecast calls for a high temperature near 95 degrees with possible heat indices as high as 107 degrees. Southwest winds are expected between 5 and 10 mph, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. ET.

As of 10 a.m. ET Saturday, National Weather Service forecasters are predicting highs near 92 degrees for Sunday and Monday. A high of 96 degrees is forecast for Sunday and 98 degrees for Monday.
