Three different drivers were caught speeding over 100 mph in Aurora on July 4

DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora police stopped three separate drivers going nearly 40 mph over the speed limit on Interstate 225 Thursday morning.

On X, the Aurora Police Department released three photos of a radar catching drivers going over 100 mph.

“No, it was not the same car that our traffic officer stopped three times,” the department said.

The three drivers were arrested while traveling at 101, 102 and 103 mph. Aurora police said all three drivers are now scheduled to appear in court.

“Driving at this speed is not only illegal and dangerous, it is also potentially deadly. Do not risk someone else’s life, or your own, by driving at this speed,” Aurora police said.

According to the Colorado General Assembly’s penalties for speeding violations, driving 25 mph or more over the “reasonable and prudent speed” or exceeding the legal speed limit of 75 mph is considered a Class 2 traffic misdemeanor.

Those caught speeding could face a minimum fine of $150 to a maximum of $300, or a minimum sentence of 10 days in jail to a maximum of 90 days, according to the general assembly.

Drivers caught driving 20 to 39 mph over the speed limit could receive six points on their license and those caught driving 40 mph or more could receive 12 points.

So, obey the speed limit signs and slow down: it could cost you your license or a prison sentence.
