Will ‘Outer Range’ Be Picked Up After Amazon Cancellation?

Outdoor range looked like Yellowstone meets Lost at first glance, but the series (starring Josh Brolin, Imogen Poots and Tom Pelphrey) looked a lot more like Twin Peaks in its willingness to lean into the bizarre, mystical and hypnotic elements of what was otherwise a completely insane science fiction and time travel story. A singing cowboy, mysterious black powder and Josh Brolin screaming into a huge hole in the ground were just the beginning of the weirdness.

Unfortunately, this show has now suffered the same fate as Twin Peakswhich was actually cancelled after two seasons before achieving cult status. Amazon decided that Outdoor range will not be returning after the second season premiered in May and ended with a freaking cliffhanger. It seemed like answers were finally starting to emerge about Autumn’s plans, and Royal Abbott had finally stopped sleeping in the doghouse with his wife so they could sort out the timey-wimey cowboy mess, but sorry, no future seasons will be emerging on Prime Video. Variety Notes: Amazon has maintained its tradition of not revealing viewership figures, but the show topped the Nielsen Top 10 lists the weekend it premiered.

Let’s just say that viewers aren’t thrilled to have been invested in another sci-fi series that was starting to take off but was pulled at a crucial moment. As a result, people are expressing their disappointment not only on Reddit but also on X/Twitter.

Could this series be picked up elsewhere? Only time will tell. This is a series that Netflix could have picked up less than five years ago (and probably with better results than with Manifest), but streaming markets are tighter these days. There’s been no word on whether the show is being marketed, so in all likelihood it’s also being sold on Amazon and elsewhere as well The ringroad turned out to be.
