Spain provide update on Pedri’s knee injury after Euro 2024 win over Germany

Spain have provided a first update on Pedri’s injury after the Barcelona midfielder was forced off the pitch in the opening minutes of La Roja’s Euro 2024 clash against Germany.

Pedri was injured in a violent tackle from Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and appeared clearly upset as he left the pitch.

Spain said initial tests showed Pedri suffered a lateral internal sprain in his left knee. Further tests will be carried out to determine the severity of the injury.

The initial feeling is that Pedri will not need surgery and could be out for two to eight weeks, depending on the severity of his knee sprain.

What seems certain is that Pedri will play no further role with Spain at Euro 2024. La Roja will play again on Tuesday against Portugal or France.

Spain eventually beat Germany 2-1 after extra time, with Barca’s target Mikel Merino scoring the winning goal after the match looked set to go to penalties.
