If there’s one thing that’s true about life, it’s that it’s always changing, and we often don’t see those changes coming.

We must adapt if we are to thrive.

That said, sometimes our kids have just as much trouble growing up as we do letting them go—a fact this mom discovered the hard way when her son got upset about “his” room at home.

Check out the whole story below!

I have two children: Kathy (29) and Michael (25). Kathy lives with me, pays some of the bills, and has no plans to move anytime soon.

We have our own business that we run out of our home. It’s easier for her to live here and it’s great because I have help paying the bills.

Michael lives about an hour away from me for work and has his own apartment. For a while, I kept Michael’s room as it was.

He has shared on several occasions that he has no plans to return home because his job is in the city he moved to.

Recently, her daughter unexpectedly inherited a child.

Kathy had a very close friend who had a 2 year old daughter, Zoey. Her friend named Kathy as her daughter’s godmother as well as guardian if she were to pass away.

Unfortunately, this happened 6 months ago.

Kathy’s friend was a single mother, so Kathy was awarded custody. Zoey initially shared a room with Kathy because she suffered from extreme separation anxiety.

However, she is now ready to have her own room. Since our house has 3 bedrooms, we have no other place to put her.

His son, however, was upset that he would not have a room during his visit.

When I told Michael what we were doing, I said I would buy a sofa bed for the living room or I could buy a daybed for my bedroom when he came to stay overnight for the holidays.

I know sharing a room with your mom isn’t fun, but I want to give her options.

He’s mad because I gave the room to Zoey. He says it was her room.

I said I understood, but he doesn’t live with me. Kathy lives with me and pays the bills. She even pays more now because she feels like she’s using more resources with Zoey living with us.

I would feel differently if Kathy and Zoey moved soon, but they don’t. At this point, Kathy is considering adopting Zoey.

I want to help her. My mother helped me raise my children, her mother helped her, it’s in our culture to have a multi-generational household.

She thinks he is being unfair because he only sleeps 2-3 times a year.

Moving is not an option. I can make the space more private for Michael when he spends the night (a partition in the living room).

But since he usually only puts her to bed 2 or 3 times a year, this doesn’t seem practical.

I said that if Michael ever had to move permanently, we would find a solution. And I would also help him with his child if he found himself in that situation.

He says he doesn’t want children. I told him that’s fine, but that’s the current situation.

He thinks Kathy should move out. I said I wouldn’t kick her out just so he could have a room the few times he spends the night here.

What is this ?

Is anyone going to side with this grown man here?

Let’s find out!

The best comment says it’s his house and it should meet his needs.

After all, his son doesn’t live there anymore.

The right is real.

His lack of empathy towards an orphaned little girl is definitely concerning.

Ultimately, he doesn’t need that part anymore, and someone else does.

I understand that it is difficult to detach yourself from a childhood bedroom.

That said, this guy is extremely selfish.
