North Texas Groups Ready to Help Areas Hit by Beryl – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Hurricane Beryl passed through Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Like many North Texas residents, Stae and Wallace Hall of Fort Worth were there on vacation.

“The rain was blowing diagonally and it was very heavy,” described Stae Hall of Fort Worth.

Beryl left behind a lot of damage and cut off the power to their compound.

“Some trees were pushed down,” said Wallace Hall of Fort Worth. “There was a lot of flooding in some areas. They kind of blocked some paths and things like that. They blocked the flooding.”

Beryl is now heading toward southern Texas and could cause similar damage.

“Right now, like everyone else, we are monitoring the storm,” said John Hall, a spokesman for Texans on Mission.

The disaster response organization has volunteers from across the state and right here in North Texas ready to go where they’re needed.

“Right now, all of our volunteers are on alert,” Hall said. “They’re ready to go. We’re filling out the rosters for our mass feeding teams that will be deployed right now. This mass feeding team alone can prepare 30,000 meals a day.”

Chainsaw and flood relief teams are also part of the response plan. All are monitoring the storm’s path to determine where to send teams.

The path is also a concern for the Hall family, who are due to return home on Sunday.

“Then maybe Sunday, because that’s when it’s supposed to hit Texas. You know, we have to fly all the way to South Texas to get there, unless they fly us around the area or something,” Wallace Hall said. “But the airline hasn’t said anything about that yet. So we’re going to just go by instinct.”

The Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) has called on fire departments across North Texas to assist if needed.

The North Richland Hills Fire Department responded and will provide a Type 1 engine to be part of a response team for that area.
