Euro 2024: It was unfair – Kimmich laments referee’s refusal to award Germany penalty

Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich has insisted referee Anthony Taylor disallowed a penalty during their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals on Friday.

He argued that his country should have been awarded a penalty.

The midfielder said this despite the fact that UEFA rules for the tournament provide for a reasonable explanation for ignoring their penalty.

Kimmich made a bold statement about this while speaking to the media after the match.

“Unfortunately it was very unfair. We were much better in the second half and in extra time. The Spanish just wanted to save themselves by going to penalties.

“We had two very good chances after conceding the goal and should have had a penalty for handball,” he said.
